General information about our sensor solutions

For which wind turbines are the smart solutions most appropriate?

Our solutions are designed to be compatible with all wind turbines throughout their operational lifespan, and they can be seamlessly retrofitted.

Are there installations on Vestas turbines?

Yes, our sensor system are independent from third party data and therefore works on any turbine. We have already installed on different turbine types including Vestas turbines.

Can the product also be installed in North America? If yes, is there any difference?

Yes, it can also be installed in North America. There is no difference – the system is identical, as it also meets the requirements for North America market and regarding the icing products also the North America certification regulations.

How is noise variability handled?

Our acoustic sensor system autonomously distinguishes between external noise sources, requiring no user intervention. It achieves this by validating measurements across a timeframe and evaluating several variables for their consistency and stability.

Where can I find the collected data?

The data of our systems can be found in our dashboard and can also be easily exported if needed.

How does the data transmission from the on-blade sensor to receiving unit works?

Date transmission from the autonomous sensors to the base station works via radio link (no internet connection required for this) with a typical transmission frequency of 868MHz (Europe).

What are the applications of your sensor systems?

With the on-tower, in-blade and on-blade sensor solutions, you can monitor the following:

  • Rotor blade damages (detecting structural damages and blade damages),
  • Icing (incl. temperature measurement for preventive heating)
  • Relative pitch misalignment as well as
  • Lightning strike detection

How are the systems installed?

The on-tower system is an easy plug-and-play product. So the system can be installed by your own technicians. Therefore the process can be divided into the following two steps:

  • Connection to the power and communication module and activation of the device
  • Attaching the system directly to the tower using the magnetic brackets

The in-blade sensor

  • can be installed easily on the blade access platform or
  • within the blade depending on preference

For the mounting of the on-blade system you need:

  • installation of the base station incl. wiring and installation of the receiving antennas
  • attach the self-adhesive on-blade sensors to the outer skin of the rotor blade. This can be done both on the ground and by climbing the turbine
  • commissioning incl. of a testing

How long does it take to put the on blade system into operation after hardware installation?

If all hardware installations are completed, a remote commissioning takes about 1-2 hours. The ice detection system needs no further calibration time.

What is the size of the systems?

The on-tower solution has sensor with a diameter of about 200 mm which is connected to a 21×9 cm power and communications module by cable.

The on-blade sensor is approximately as big as a DIN A4 paper and 2mm thick.

Are the systems certified?

Our on-blade system for ice detection is DNV certified. You can find more information here.

Ice detection

How quickly does the on-blade ice detection system pay for itself?

Experience with more than 700 ice detection systems measuring directly on the blades has shown that the annual downtimes due to blade icing are reduced up to 80% in comparison to nacelle-based systems. Depending on the location of the turbine, an ice detection system pays for itself in only a few years. Calculate your own ROI with our ROI calculator here.

I would like to install the on-blade ice detection system. What data tariff does the internet connection via LTE require if I want to use the dashboard?

The on-blade system for ice detection require a data plan with 1 GB data volume per month if you want to use our data dashboard.

Pitch angle measurement

I would like to install the on blade system for pitch angle measurement. What data tariff does the internet connection via LTE require if I want to use the dashboard?

As a single system or in combination with the on-blade ice detection system a data tariff with 3 GB volume is needed.
